Pejman Habibi M. D.   Language Learning Consultant

About me

Hello! My name is Pejman Habibi. I am a language teacher and pedagogic consultant with over 19 years of experience in teaching English to university students, doctors, managers,...

In addition to General English, I also have a lot of experience in teaching medical English and also English for International language tests like the FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS and recently TOEIC.

Here I am going to tell you how you can learn English really well so that you can speak well, write well, understand English-speaking people, films etc, read books and articles easily, and also so that you can be successful in international exams like TOEIC, IELTS, FCE, CAE, FCE etc.

But first I must explain my approach, my philosophy, in language learning to you. You see, I think if you want to do anything well, you must first think carefully about it and develop an approach, a philosophy, for it. And by everything, I mean "everything", even something as ordinary-looking as drinking a cup of coffee can be much more enjoyable and can have so much depth and richness if there is a well-thought approach behind it. (If you think I am exaggerating, click here to read about my approach to drinking coffee)

How to learn a language

Now let's turn our attention to learning languages. How can you learn a language successfully? Here is my approach:

To learn a language well, you need 3 things:

1. You need a well-planned learning system. Without a good system which is designed to meet your needs and conditions, you may work hard for a long time but not get good results.

2. You need a teacher who knows how to help the student follow the plan, a teacher who can not only teach the language well, but also can help the student learn "how to learn". (Ever heard this Chinese proverb? "Don't give a hungry man fish to eat; teach him how to catch fish!")

3. And you also need some hard work, of course. Let's be honest with each other; you can't do anything successfully if you don't work hard. There's no golden road to learning. But if you have a good learning system and a good teacher who can support you in following that system, your hard work won't be wasted, you can be sure of your final success!

A question you may ask here is "how much hard work?" The answer is that it depends on you, it depends on how fast you want to improve, but normally you need at least one lesson a week (1-2 hours) and you also need to work 1-2 hours during the week yourself.

How "you" can learn English well:

I explained my approach to you and that is exactly what I do for my students:

First I analyse their needs and assess their level of English, so that I can develop an effective learning plan for them.

Then, during the lessons, I help them acquire the four skills (or abilities) of the language, i.e. the ability to understand what they hear, the ability to speak, the ability to read English texts faster and understand them better, and finally the ability to write letters, essays etc in good correct English. And I put a lot of emphasis on helping my students develop "effective learning strategies", i.e. I help them learn "how to learn".

And of course, because we want to really get results and not just waste each other's time (and your money), we will work hard! Did I forget to tell you that I am a very strict teacher? Yes, I know, it is a bit frightening to be working with a disciplinarian, but I do get results! My students do learn good English! And that is what you want, isn't it? You do want to learn good English, don't you?

But we both know that discipline is not something I could force upon you. If you yourself are not willing to work hard, nobody can force you to do that. We can only be successful if we work as a team to get the result we want.

So, if you really need and want to learn English well, why don't you contact me? Who knows, this time next year, we may both be proud of your English!
